Governors

Our Governors are representatives of the parents, school staff and the local community. They meet every half term as a whole Governing Board.

The Governors are responsible for the overall policies of the school, making key appointments, monitoring the running of the school and having overall control of the budget.

Governors have a duty to regularly review the way in which the school is organised, monitor its achievements and to contribute to the development of the school. Governors work in partnership with the Head Teacher in every aspect of the school’s life.

Please see details of our Members of the Governing Board below:

Jonathan Albert - Vice Chair of Governors

"I have had the pleasure of working with the Governing Board and Senior Leadership Team since February 2019. For the last 10 years I have lived in Tadworth and gained a good understanding of the local schools market, having working in two local independent schools. As the Assistant Head of Downsend School I am a huge advocate of an all-rounded and holistic approach to education, developing creative and initiative curriculums that inspire and enhance the important skills of problem solving, independence and resillience. Outside of school, I run a cricket coaching company, enjoy long family walks over the Downs and spending time on the side-lines of various sporting pitches watching my own three children grow up too fast".

Lawrence Matthews - Parent Governor

"Currently I work at a nearby school, where I have a significant pastoral role and teach Chemistry, as well as run several sports teams. I believe in a holistic approach to education and look to develop the talents of all individuals under my care both in and outside the classroom. Within my role I am an Advanced Skills Teacher, helping to develop my colleagues’ classroom skills. My experience in school management, developing teaching and learning as well as child protection enable me to make a significant contribution through the position of Chair of Governors at WFIS".

Jonny Bailey - Co-Opted Governor

"I have worked in education for ten years, as a postgraduate lecturer and latterly a secondary school teacher at nearby Epsom College. I am extremely proud to be a part of Wallace Fields Infant School; I believe it is an exceptional place for young children to be educated in. In my spare time I am a keen sportsman, happy to play or watch virtually any sport".

Michelle Hinkley – Co-Opted Governor

"I am currently Head of SEN at a local independent school and have worked previously in SEN leadership roles in the primary phase for the last 15 years.  I am a specialist teacher and assessor of Dyslexia and am trained in supporting learners with a variety of additional needs. I am delighted to be a member of the Governing body at Wallace Fields Infant School where I can use my expertise and enthusiasm in supporting school leaders and staff in continuing to deliver an exceptional educational experience for the children that attend WFIS.    My family and I moved to Surrey two years ago and are still excited to be exploring the area and getting to know the best walks and places to visit.  We love to be outdoors and feel blessed to be surrounded by such a wonderful diverse environment. ".

Sonal Chatrath – Co-opted Governor

"I am delighted to be the Link Governor for Early Years at Wallace Fields Infant School. I am currently Assistant Head Academic at Danes Hill School in Oxshott. Having been an early year’s practitioner for many years, I truly believe in a holistic approach to education that enables staff to provide a teaching and learning environment that is not only exciting, progressive and challenging, but one that is rich in instilling values and self-worth in every child. I feel excited and privileged to be part of a dedicated team of Governors in supporting an exceptional school such as Wallace Fields.

I grew up in Kenya and immigrated to the UK some 30 years ago. We moved to Surrey about 17 years ago from London, and enjoyed bringing up our two children in an idyllic environment. An avid reader, I enjoy swimming and following international cricket. "

Anjali Webb – Co-opted Governor

"I am delighted to be joining the Board of Governors at Wallace Fields School. I have 15 years of public sector experience working for the Civil Service in Whitehall where I have worked in a diverse range of roles. I am looking forward to using my skills and experience to work collaboratively with the team of dedicated governors and hard-working staff to help shape the school’s future direction. It’s a privilege to be part of a school that places the welfare and development of children at the heart of everything they do and provides them with such a strong foundation in education.

My family and I moved to Epsom 3 years ago and have enjoyed getting to know the local area. I have two young daughters and outside of work we enjoy walking, cycling and spending as much time outside as we can."

Annabel Langley - Staff Governor

"I became a Staff Governor after joining WFIS in September 2018. I have been teaching for 6 years and spent most of my time teaching in a Primary School in Croydon.

In my spare time I try to keep fit by running, cycling and swimming. I enjoy reading, dancing and taking care of my two cats".

Tara Cooke – Clerk to WFIS & Nursery Local Governing Board and Inspiration Academy Trust Board

"I am Clerk to both the Wallace Fields Infant School & Nursery Local Governing Board and the Inspiration Academy Trust Board.  In addition to this I am also the School Business Manager at WFIS & Nursery and these 3 roles keep me very busy! I have over 25 years of finance & administrative experience, with the last 11 gained within the education sector. In 2019 I was delighted to be a member of the first cohort to complete the national, newly launched, Professional Clerking Programme. This qualification is helping me to support the Governors more effectively and efficiently whilst ensuring the Board perform to the highest standards of professionalism and within the Governance Competency Framework set down by the Department for Education.  In the past year I have successfully completed further studies within  my HR role in the school and I am now an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Professional Development (CIPD).   When I am not working or studying I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and following the pursuits of Liverpool Football Club!".
