Covid-19 Support

Wallace Fields Infant School and Nursery recognises its responsibilities for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and this still applies during this time and whilst our children are learning virtually.  Please take a look under the Our School tab for our Safeguarding link, which gives more information on this.

Remote Learning information at WFIS & Nursery

Hello and a very warm welcome to the remote learning page!

Our Contingency Plan for Remote Learning can be accessed here.

Please see this suggested timetable to follow in order to help structure your child’s day during remote learning.

Self-isolating Days 1 to 3

We are very sorry to hear your child is self-isolating and awaiting test results. If they are well enough, we have a learning pack of ‘Get-going work’ for them to complete over the next few days.

Days 1 - 3: ‘Get-going work’

Each year group has prepared a paper pack of daily activities covering key skills in reading, spelling, grammar and maths. In Nursery, this will be a grid with some suggested home activities.

Children will also access online resources like Reading EggsBug Club and Purple Mash using their existing log in details. Please contact the school if you do not have the log in details for these sites.

On the day of notification of absence, either the pack will be emailed to you or a paper copy will be available from the school office for collection.

A member of the Senior Leadership Team or the school Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) will make contact with you by the end of day 1.

Self-isolating Days 4 to 14

If your child is continuing to isolate for 10 days following a positive test, or is isolating as a result of household isolation/contact from NHS Test and Trace for 14 days, we will begin providing a bespoke level of support to you as follows:

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2

Teachers will make contact with you by the end of the fourth day of isolation to talk you through a typical daily timetable and the type of work to be sent home.

Class teachers, supported by the office team, will send home via email or ClassDojo a suggested timetable and a range of resources including phonics activities, White Rose/Power Maths resources and wider curriculum resources in line with what is being taught that week in class.

Children will also access online resources like Reading EggsBug Club and Purple Mash using their existing log in details. Please contact the school if you do not have the log in details for these sites.

Parents will submit one activity each day via ClassDojo so the class teacher can give feedback.

Nursery

Class teachers, supported by the office team, will send home via email or Tapestry a standalone pack of activities which can be completed to support children’s development.

Parents will submit any completed activities through Tapestry so the staff can give feedback.

Class or year group closure due to positive cases or school closure as a result of local/national lockdown

In the unfortunate event of a year group or class closure, or a wider lockdown, different procedures as outlined in WFIS & Nursery Contingency Plan for Remote Learning will apply. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will use the Class Dojo app as an online learning platform (children in Nursery will use Tapestry to which parents already have access).

Using Class Dojo will enable your child/ren's Class Teacher to post photos, videos, files, and text updates on a private feed as well as share links to resources and give feedback on work submitted. We have already asked parents to connect to the app, however, if you have not already done so, you can follow the links below and follow the instructions here.  Please contact the school office for your child’s individual login details.

Butterfly class: Miss Megan Steeper

Bumblebee class: Miss Megan Davies

Hedgehog class: Miss Theresa Russell

Badger class: Miss Evangelos

Kingfisher class: Miss Cann

Reading

Reading should be a daily activity and we have a variety of resources to support you with this at home. As we are sure you are aware reading for just 20 minutes a day at home has many benefits, including strengthening the brain and building vocabulary. If you are finding it difficult to get hold of books, we have the following subscriptions, and also see links to free websites with e-books:

Reading Eggs – includes ‘Fast Phonics’ (use your child’s individual log in details)

Bug Club (use your child’s individual log in details)

Oxford Owl (free resource)

Book Trust  (free resource)
