Governors

Our Governors are representatives of the parents, school staff and the local community. They meet every half term as a whole Governing Board.

The Governors are responsible for the overall policies of the school, making key appointments, monitoring the running of the school and having overall control of the budget.

Governors have a duty to regularly review the way in which the school is organised, monitor its achievements and to contribute to the development of the school. Governors work in partnership with the Head Teacher in every aspect of the school’s life.

Please see details of our Members of the Governing Board below:

Lawrence Matthews - Chair of Governors

"I am the Chair of Governors, having assumed the role in 2017. Previously I was the Safeguarding and SEN Governor. Currently I work at a nearby school, where I have a significant pastoral role and teach Chemistry, as well as run several sports teams. I believe in a holistic approach to education and look to develop the talents of all individuals under my care both in and outside the classroom. Within my role I am an Advanced Skills Teacher, helping to develop my colleagues’ classroom skills. My experience in school management, developing teaching and learning as well as child protection enable me to make a significant contribution through the position as Chair of Governors at WFIS".

Keith Boyce - Parent Governor

"I joined the Governing board of the school as a parent Governor and trustee of the MAT in 2016. I have two children, one who is currently at WFIS and the other at the Junior School. I’m passionate that all children are given every opportunity to achieve and enjoy their education and want to support the hard work and dedication of the staff to deliver this.I have a financial background and also work with some not for profit organisations on a non-executive and voluntary basis".

Jonny Bailey - Co-Opted Governor

"I have worked in education for ten years, as a postgraduate lecturer and latterly a secondary school teacher at nearby Epsom College. I am extremely proud to be a part of Wallace Fields Infant School; I believe it is an exceptional place for young children to be educated in. In my spare time I am a keen sportsman, happy to play or watch virtually any sport".

Cathy Dodd - Co-Opted Governor

"I am a retired teacher of Law having worked in a big comprehensive school locally for 10 years. I held the position of Staff Governor there and then stood as a co opted Governor at another outstanding local primary school. One grandson is currently in Reception at WFIS and another will join Little Stars Nursery in September 2019. I volunteer to help with reading and enrichment activities and find that really fulfilling so when the opportunity to become a Governor at WFIS arose recently I was delighted to be appointed. I love all aspects of education and feel that my experience to date allows me to provide a critical, strategic and supportive role. I have immersed myself in Early Years Training already as I felt that this was an area where I lacked professional expertise (although as a very active grandmother to three under fives I am kept on my toes! ) As a Governing board we work and support collectively but I am the link Governor for Special Educational Needs and for Safeguarding.

My interests lie mainly around my family and outings and holidays but retirement has seen me taking more interest in our garden. My husband and I love eating out with friends and going to the theatre too. I read a lot and try to keep up to date on educational issues and am willing to attend extra training when necessary. You will probably see me around school on my regular days when I’m volunteering but also on the days when I take or pick up my beautiful grandchildren from school".

Shona Todd - Co-Opted Governor

"I became a Governor at Wallace Fields Infant School this February 2019 and am delighted to be a part of such a wonderful community. I recently graduated from Sussex University with a BA in English Literature. At University I was lucky to get an internship with a Governor Training Company which I hope will set me in good stead to govern at WFIS! I volunteered with a local school in Brighton to promote mental wellbeing; now I'm moving home I want to give back to the community here. I really enjoyed working with the teens but I'm looking forward to being an Early Years Governor to watch the children grow and develop fundamental skills for their future".

Jon Albert - Co-Opted Governor

"I have had the pleasure of working with the Governing Board and Senior Leadership Team since February 2019. For the last 10 years I have lived in Tadworth and gained a good understanding of the local schools market, having working in two local independent schools. As the Assistant Head of Downsend School I am a huge advocate of an all-rounded and holistic approach to education, developing creative and initiative curriculums that inspire and enhance the important skills of problem solving, independence and resillience. Outside of school, I run a cricket coaching company, enjoy long family walks over the Downs and spending time on the side-lines of various sporting pitches watching my own three children grow up too fast".

Annabel Langley - Staff Governor

"I became a Staff Governor after joining WFIS in September 2018. I have been teaching for 6 years and spent most of my time teaching in a Primary School in Croydon.

In my spare time I try to keep fit by running, cycling and swimming. I enjoy reading, dancing and taking care of my two cats".
